Our acknowledgement and prayer for Reconciliation Week 27 May to 3 June
Our faith seeks to focus on life and love within our community. With this in mind we created our acknowledgement prayer for Reconciliation week 2021.
Our prayer includes:
- Asking forgiveness for ignorance and arrogance
- Loving one another
- Desiring to be all together as family
- Raising up of the Treaty – all embracing
- Gratitude for opening minds
- For health, forgiveness and unity
- Serenity, peace and love
- Embracing the spirit of life
- Action and change
We wrote our prayer on ribbons which are stitched and woven within the weaving of the river.
In the preamble to the Uniting Church of Australia’s Constitution it says this: “ The Uniting Church in Australia is committed to a relationship which fosters just, inclusive and equal relationships, recognising the place of First Peoples in Australia.”
So we have already made a small start towards Reconciliation. As
this year our Reconciliation Service is on Trinity Sunday ( 12 June), it is appropriate that we should also be gazing upon the Aboriginal flag and it’s striking three colours. We are all experts on how we see and feel the Trinity.
Our First Nations people have had a 45,000 years head start on this and so much more.
“The call for justice and righteousness sits at the heart of who we are as people of faith.”
