March News 1

Today is Ash Wednesday and it marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a special time where we are invited to renew walking closely with the Divine. It lasts for 40 days up to Holy Thursday (17 April), Sundays not included. The Liturgical colour for this season is Purple, representing humility and preparation.

This season we are doing “Haiku for Lent” – writing a Haiku every-day during Lent (40 Haikus). If you’re keen to participate, here’s a helpful article on what Haiku is – https://www.writebetterpoems.com/articles/how-to-write-haiku. It’s a common misconception that Haiku is about writing a three-line poem of 5-7-5 syllables. Rather, it’s about capturing a moment of insight.

Here are some things to diarise for March:

Meditation Group on Thursdays at 1pm at the church (6, 13, 20, 27 March).

World Day of Prayer on Friday 7 March at 10am at the church.

Dayspring Contemplative Spirituality on Thursday 13 March at 9-12am at Augusta Uniting Church (68 Blackwood Ave).

First Sunday of Lent – 9 March, Sue Vernon is leading the service.

Second Sunday of Lent – 16 March, Colleen is leading the service.

Third Sunday of Lent – 23 March, TBA is leading the service.

Fourth Sunday of Lent – 30 March, Mary Esslemont is leading.

We’d love to see you during this special time at one of these gatherings. All are welcome.
